FAQs
Why is it Messy?
It’s really not. But our thought process is. Get over it ;)
What is a Giclée print?
It’s a fancy word for high-quality, archival, large format inkjet printing usually used for fine art or photo reproduction. The color is very saturated and smooth, and looks like a silk screen print.
Will the prints last forever ever?
Nothing lasts forever. But they will hold up for generations. They’re printed with archival inks and on acid and lignin-free archival paper just in case you’re an archivist.
What’s taking sooo long?
We print and ship each piece individually as fast as we can with loving care. Sometimes love takes time, but we’ll send you a tracking number and all that good stuff so that you’re not totally left in the dark.
How do I flatten out my rolled print?
The best thing to do is to have the print flattened and framed by a professional. If you want to flatten out the print yourself, please follow the instructions in this video. We are not responsible for any damage that may occur when you try to flatten the print.
What hashtags should I use?
We appreciate you sharing any photos on social media. If you feel like doing so please use the hashtags #messymod and #messymodernism so we can help spread the word.
Why aren’t you selling all the pieces that I see elsewhere online?
We’re starting small and seeing how it goes. If you’re dying for a piece of art that you don’t see here, let us know and we’ll certainly consider it.
Do you sell art in custom sizes?
Yes. If you need a size that’s not available in the store, please contact us and let us know and we can get a price and timeframe for you.
Do you do commissions or commercial projects?
Absolutely. If you want to get in touch about a potential project, we’d love to hear about it. Please contact us and tell us about your project in the form.
Can I use that letter or illustration for a logo or something else?
Many of our type designs and illustrations work great for logos or logotypes. In these cases, we require a specific license to use them for a brand and/or logo.
A branding license is a one-time fee for use as a logo for 1 single brand. It's unlimited in time, and commercial use is included (for the brand which purchases the license).
The fee is determined by company size:
independent worker, no retail products, service only, fee is $1000 USD
companies up to 20 employees, fee is $2500 USD
companies up to 50 employees, fee is $5000 USD
companies up to 70 employees, fee is $7500 USD
…………………..
If you’re interested in an artwork license, please contact us. We’ll need to know the following: (1) What artwork you’re interested in using, and (2) What you would like to use it for. We’ll get back to you about the fee, arranging the purchase and the transfer of the file(s).
Can I use your artwork for a tattoo?
We love to see it! We charge a $100 licensing fee + $5 payment processing fee for one piece of art. We also ask that you take some great pics of your tattoo and share them with us. This will earn you extra karma points by supporting working artists. ;-) Please contact us about which piece of art you are interested in tattooing. You may purchase a license in our shop.
Can I purchase a typeface to use on my computer?
We do have a font called Modwood that you can purchase and use on your computer as an .otf file. However most of our typography designs are individual art files (vectors) rather than a font that you can load onto your computer and type with. We’re not “type designers” and don’t pretend to be, but you can definitely use the artwork if you know how.
